QUALIFIED CHARITABLE DISTRIBUTIONS (QCD)

If you are age 70½ or older, you may be able to make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) directly from your IRA to an eligible 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization such as The Homing Project.

A QCD can be excluded from your taxable income, provided it meets IRS requirements, and it can count toward your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) if you are required to take one. This can allow you to support The Homing Project with funds from your IRA without including the qualifying distribution in your taxable income.

RMDs are the minimum amounts you generally must withdraw each year from certain retirement accounts. For most traditional IRAs, SEP IRAs, SIMPLE IRAs, and retirement plans, RMDs now begin at age 73.

You should consult your IRA custodian or tax adviser to ensure the distribution is handled correctly. If you'd like to speak to The Homing Project's Treasurer, please contact Joan Hall at  joan@thehomingproject.org
